The University of Gloucestershire has become the eighteenth university to join the Unitemps Franchise Network after launching on September 4th 2023.
Unitemps at the University of Gloucestershire offers hiring managers within the University an easy, flexible internal staffing service, offering temporary and permanent roles, with compliance and legislative support provided by the Unitemps Head Office team.
Within the coming months, Unitemps at the University of Gloucestershire will expand its services to businesses across Cheltenham, Gloucestershire and the surrounding areas, providing hiring managers in a variety of sectors with a full recruitment solution that can be adapted to fit their individual needs. Students and local professionals have the chance to work in a variety of settings, building their CVs and enhancing the student experience and employability after their studies.
Will Dunn, Branch Manager at Unitemps Gloucestershire gave his thoughts on the advantages of opening a Unitemps branch, and the types of clients the branch will be looking to work with:
“Unitemps is a way for our students to access a variety of opportunities, both within the University working for University departments and with a range of external and regional businesses in Gloucestershire. In terms of the types of opportunities, we offer a range of courses at the University, and we really want opportunities that reflect that variety.
“We’re looking to work with a range of sectors, including Gloucestershire’s bustling hospitality sector, professional services sector as well as industries like education, sport, health and social care. It’s a real range of opportunities to try and suit our diverse student group.”
The opening of the branch will strengthen the University’s relationship with surrounding businesses and in turn, increase graduate retention and employability within Gloucestershire. All profit generated by Unitemps will be reinvested into the University to the benefit of the students, staff and local community.
Jo Evans, the Head of Employability and Employer Engagement at the University of Gloucestershire told us how she expects the Unitemps branch to benefit students at the University: “I think for our students this is just a huge benefit, [as] Unitemps offers a secure way to find part-time temporary work where we’ve done the due diligence. We’re making sure that [Unitemps] has done all the checks that need to be done. We’re paying the right national living wage for our students, working with the clients to make sure the vacancies are appropriate for our students.
“I think with the cost of living crisis, students need to work more than ever and we want them to do that in a way that means they can successfully study at the same time. I think for many of our students it also offers a different community to engage with while they’re at university.
“Some of our students have said that through their part-time work, they found a different set of friendships that have been really important to them, enabling them to continue to study.
“I think there’s a huge amount of benefits, plus chances to build networks for when they graduate, perhaps leading on to graduate roles and perhaps staying within Gloucestershire with those graduate roles. So I think it’s a really important way to engage with our students and help them understand the benefits of the holistic nature of their experience at university.”
Zara Smyth, Unitemps Franchise Relationship Manager, commented: “We are very pleased to welcome the University of Gloucestershire to the Unitemps network. Sitting within the Careers Studio and working closely with their Careers department, we are excited at the prospect of what Unitemps will bring to both the University and its students. The Unitemps team at the University of Gloucestershire have some fantastic ideas to provide greater paid work opportunities both on campus and within the local area and enhance their students’ experience. I look forward to working with the team to launch and grow their Unitemps branch.”
