The Unitemps Franchise Network has expanded to welcome another university, with Heriot-Watt University joining in September 2023. Based in Edinburgh, Heriot-Watt is the second Unitemps branch to launch in Scotland and our seventeenth franchise overall.
In the short-term, Unitemps Heriot-Watt will support students with securing jobs on campus, with a view to working with local businesses in the future. The branch will provide hiring managers with a flexible recruitment service that can be tailored to suit their needs, whether they need help with the entire recruitment process or only one aspect of it.
Anna Wilson, Branch Manager at Unitemps Heriot-Watt, explained why they decided to open a Unitemps branch: “We decided to open a Unitemps branch in order to centralise the service of hiring temporary staff, specifically students. We thought bringing everything into one place would make it easier for hiring managers and for students.”
Opening a Unitemps branch will enable the University to improve its overall student experience and improve students’ employment prospects, while at the same time fulfilling its temporary staffing needs in a way that significantly reduces the cost of using a commercial recruitment agency.
Campbell Powrie, Deputy Registrar and Head of Student Life at Heriot-Watt University, discussed how opening a Unitemps branch will positively impact students and staff, as well as contribute to the University’s wider goals around student employability. He said: “Availability of suitable employment opportunities is extremely important to the student experience at Heriot-Watt University. Unitemps will provide student employment opportunities as well as significantly reduce the administrative load for hiring managers, leading to planned growth in the number of students employed within the University.”
Heriot-Watt University described joining the Unitemps network as a “significant step”. Alan Smith, Head of Careers and Graduate Futures at Heriot-Watt University, commented: “It will further enhance the employability of our students, whilst also meeting the recruitment needs of our internal hiring managers for part-time and casual roles.”
When asked about Heriot-Watt’s decision to join the Unitemps Franchise Network, Andy Walker, Unitemps Franchise Relationship Manager, said: “Unitemps is delighted that highly regarded Heriot-Watt University has chosen to join our network to help their students gain valuable work experience whilst studying. They become the seventeenth Unitemps franchise in the UK and the second in Scotland – an area we are keen to grow further.
“Like many other Unitemps offices, Unitemps Heriot-Watt will integrate within their Careers department to further enhance student experience and employability. I look forward to working with the team to ensure the branch is a huge success.”
